The 10th GIC May Concert

by Karina Prananto

The GIC May Concert is held every May to raise funds for third-world countries or victims of natural disasters around the world, and to promote cultural exchange through music between the local musicians and foreign community. Since its first concert back in 2003, the GIC May Concert has sent proceeds to support human right campaigns and disaster victims in other countries such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Japan.

The May Concert will to hold its 10th concert this year on May 13 at 5:00 pm. GIC’s board of musicians, led by Prof. Pahk Kay, promise to deliver an excellent performance.

Seven parts will form this year’s concert, opened by trio Choi Ji-hye on flute, Oh Seung-seok on cello, and Park Jin-hee on piano. Soprano Lee Myung-jin will follow, accompanied by violist Yang Se-mi and pianist Lee Sang-rok. Violin duo of Yang Se-mi and Kim Do-yeon, along with sopranos Pahk Kay and Gil Ae-ryeong will perform next. Four Hands of Piano, played by Dong Su-jeong and Park Ui-hyuk, and finally a solo soprano performance by Park Kyung-suk will complete the concert. To close, the lovable kids from GFN Children’s Choir will perform famous selections from The Sound of Music. Different kinds of music from other countries will also be presented in this concert. One who attended last year’s concert will surely remember all of the artists’ outstanding performances.

This year’s concert guarantees even more opportunities to appreciate the art and culture of other countries, whether or not you really enjoy classical music. So make sure you mark your calendar for May 13, and stay tuned for more details on the concert in next month’s Gwangju News. Make a memorable night supporting a worthy cause while enjoying beautiful music with family and friends.
