Morning in the Market

Written and photographed by Sarah Pittman

There’s something about the quietness of a market in the morning that reminds me of walking down Main Street in Disneyland before the park opens for the guests. Everything feels so peaceful before the hustle and bustle of the day begins.

A juxtaposition of old and new. The new apartment buildings that have sprung up over the last year cast shadows over the market.
Two cute puppies in a shop that perked up when I took their photo.
A sweet shop owner and her dog posed for a photo.
As with many of the buildings in 1913 Songjeong Market, only the first floors are occupied. Many of the upper stories are used as storage or are abandoned.
A beautiful hand-painted mural decorating one of the many market buildings on the street.
A Jindo guard dog keeping watch behind a planter.
A cat sunbathing in an alley between to ancient buildings.
