More than Just K-Pop: Korea Rocks with Day6 and Xdinary Heroes

By Paul Singh ||

Day6, the pop rock band that formed in Seoul in 2015, consists of Park Sungjin on guitar, Kang Young-hyun (aka Young K) on bass, Yoon Dowoon on drums, and Kim Wonpil on keyboards. They blend elements of pop rock, pop punk, and power punk with K-pop.

The group recently toured The Decade (their 10th Anniversary Tour), beginning in August 2025 and running into this year. While the group toured out of the country this January by visiting Hong Kong, Malaysia, and the Philippines, Day 6 visited Daegu in early February. Then, in March, they played in Taiwan, returning home again for performances in Gwangju and Daejeon. A month later, they toured in Singapore and Japan, concluding their tour in Seoul on July 5. The Decade tour stretched across 27 countries in Asia, Europe, Oceania, and North America. Their first world tour back in 2018–19 also spanned 24 cities in multiple countries.

Their songs “Zombie” and “Love Me or Leave Me,” released in 2020, were hits played alongside “Congratulations,” their first single, released in 2015. In addition, not only do they sing in Korean, but they also have four Japanese singles, including “If: Mata Aetara” released in 2018.

“Zombie,” off their album The Book of Us: The Demon, was the anthem released when the band was a five-piece group with Jae Park, who left in December 2021. Both this song and the album’s focus relied upon such challenges as despair and emotional imbalance.

According to Monash University, “This is especially important considering the year of the song’s release; 2020 can be vividly remembered as the year when the COVID-19 pandemic erupted, and isolation policies were enforced on populations worldwide. During this period, listeners may have felt as though they were ‘zombies.’”

“Love Me or Leave Me” is about a tense moment of uncertainty in a relationship, desperately seeking clarity about their feelings and grappling with the coldness of a rejecting partner. The song additionally discusses the painful acknowledgement of an unwillingness to let go, embodying the struggle between loss and fear. Other song themes include enduring the tension between hope and resignation, along with a desperation to be admired.

Day6 doesn’t have any upcoming tour dates to announce yet, but we can expect more music and more touring to be coming.

Xdinary Heroes

Xdinary Heroes is another K-rock band from Seoul formed in 2021, featuring Jungsu on vocals, Gaon on guitars, O.de on keyboards and synthesizers, Jun Han also on guitars, and Jooyeon on bass. Specifically, the group combines elements of alternative rock, punk rock, hard rock, and pop rock with catchy K-pop structures.

Xdinary Heroes (pronounced “ex-din-ary”) has toured in Japan, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and Taiwan in Asia; the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Poland in Europe; and in the United States.

The group released three EPs along with hits such as “Happy Death Day,” as their first single, “Strawberry Cake,” “Good Enough,” “Save Me,” “Voyager,” “X room,” and “KTM.” Among their greatest hits are “Good Enough” and “Strawberry Cake.” Recently, they released their eighth mini album “Dead And” in April. The tracklist contains seven tracks: “X Room,” “Voyager,” “Helium Balloon,” “No Cool Kids Zone,” “Hurt So Good,” “KTM,” and “Rise High Rise.”

Their most unforgettable show was at the Hollywood Palladium in 2025, when they were still a six-piece band. They started the show with “Beautiful Life,” which blends elements of rock and a ballad and escalating the energy with “Xymphony” shouting “LA, are you ready?!” at the crowd. The personality of each member came through throughout the performance.

From reporting by the Knockturnal, the artists reveled in the spotlight: “O.de bounced across the stage with boundless energy, rocking a playful shirt. Jun Han, more reserved in his presence, delivered intensity through his performance. Together, they set the tone: intentional, raw, and powerful.”

Xdinary Heroes was a six-piece band; however, their drummer Gunil left in August of this year amid controversy. Regardless, the group continues to make great music and tour South Korea and around the world. At the time of this writing, they were headed to an upcoming tour date at the K-Pop World Festival at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, with performances slated for October 30 and 31.
