D’s Café Column: Sojuklim – A Spacious Pet-Friendly Café for a Relaxing Day Out

Finding a café that works equally well for families, friends, and four-legged companions isn’t always easy. Sojuklim (소죽림, lit. small bamboo grove) stands out as a spacious, pet-friendly café where visitors can slow down, enjoy a good drink and dessert, and spend a comfortable afternoon with their dogs.

The spacious setting makes it a good choice for families and groups who want somewhere relaxed rather than crowded. For dog owners, the café is especially appealing. Sojuklim welcomes visitors with their pets and provides dedicated facilities for dogs, allowing both owners and their companions to enjoy their time together. Rather than simply being a café that permits pets, the space is designed with pet-owning visitors in mind.

While Sojuklim has a varied selection of drinks and desserts, two menu items are particularly worth highlighting: the Green Onion and Bacon Cream Cheese Bagel and the Soboro Chestnut Choux.

Part of the charm of Sojuklim is that the café unfolds as you explore it. There are three distinct seating areas, each with its own atmosphere. The main café occupies a traditional hanok-style building, where exposed wooden beams, warm lighting, and greenery create a welcoming blend of old and new.

From there, a path through a shaded bamboo grove leads uphill to a second indoor space: a quieter, cozy hideaway with comfortable lounge seating and large windows looking out onto the surrounding greenery. Continue past this building and the landscape opens up to an outdoor seating area overlooking the nearby farm fields. With picnic tables scattered across the grass and wide views of the countryside and sky, it is an especially peaceful spot on a clear day.

What makes Sojuklim so appealing is not simply its food or coffee, but the overall experience. Easy parking, a roomy interior, pet-friendly facilities, and distinctive desserts make it a comfortable destination for a leisurely café visit.
