Baek-suk is mostly eaten in summer because it is good for protecting your body from midsummer heat. It is especially good for people who have lost their appetite because of the sweltering heat.
It’s eaten all year round, but Koreans especially enjoy eating it on three “special” days in July and August, called Chobok (초복), Jungbok (중복) and Malbok (말복).
